Andrea is a graphic designer at Innovatia, a New Brunswick company that creates technical documents and training tools for its clients. Andrea ensures the information is not only useful but visually compelling!

A Day in the Life

Andrea often travels to client offices to learn exactly what they need. Then she designs layouts and templates for each project. When she’s not working for a customer, she’s creating marketing materials for Innovatia. She also mentors other Innovatia graphic designers.

Andrea recently volunteered for an Innovatia project to help a local elementary school redesign its library. She painted murals on the walls to create a magical atmosphere about the possibilities of learning.

Andrea is an avid painter and actress. She acts, directs and does set design for east coast theatre productions.

Roadmap

Andrea has a Bachelor of Design degree with a major in digital communications design from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Before that, she attended the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Architecture for 1.5 years but decided it wasn’t for her. Andrea worked at various ICT firms including xWave and Bell Aliant as a graphic designer. At those jobs, she learned a number of software programs and design techniques. Andrea has been at Innovatia since 2007.

Tips for Success

Communication – It’s important to communicate with clients and your own internal teams to meet expectations. From understanding a client’s needs to maintaining the accuracy of the design, communication is a critical part of Andrea being successful at her job. Time management – Defining reasonable timelines for team leaders and clients is critical to helping them understand the amount of work that goes into completing a project. Stay current – Make time for personal development of your skills. Learn about other departments within your company – This will ensure you understand your organization. It will also lead you to new opportunities for advancing your career.
