Career profile provided by CareerMash

“It’s not like the old fashioned job description of a graphic designer anymore. Now it’s about building to solve tech and social problems.”

“As a web and mobile application designer I translate human needs, expectations and behaviours into interfaces, workflows and logic. That is the equivalent of acting as a translator between human and software.”

Highlight

Behrouz is part of a dynamic team at Jet Cooper - an innovative user experience design agency in downtown Toronto. User experience design involves all aspects of the user’s interaction with a product: how it is perceived, learned, and used.

Behrouz’s CareerMash

Behrouz mashes graphic design with technology. “It’s not like the old fashioned job description of a graphic designer anymore. Now it’s about building to solve tech and social problems.” Behrouz says using a computer for his designs is integral. “The more I upgrade my tech skills the better designer I can be.” He has an understanding of technology, but he also has to translate his ideas and make them easy for the average user to access.

A Day in the Life

“Design is a collaborative effort.” Graphic designers, developers and strategy people work together at Jet Cooper. “The designer role

Behrouz designs websites that serve a function (not just static content). “When you visit a site to ask for tailored information (e.g. connecting you with people that have similar lifestyles—sports, interests etc.) that’s what I create; the structural thinking of the website.” is to work with the entire team to understand business and functional objectives of the project. I then make structural decisions alongside the developer. From there I work to develop the web page. Every pixel is designed then passed along to a developer to make it functional.”

A recent project was redesigning an online food ordering system. He took the project through different stages (such as information architecture, art boarding, visual design and finally page designs). He also had to take into consideration the existing user’s habits and expectations. “I had to set up phone calls with the most active users to understand what they liked the most, what needed to be improved and what parts of the experience they wanted to see gone in the new version. Digesting all this information, and rearranging the steps of a web design project to accommodate for new findings that pop up in that process, is both a challenging and refreshing part of my work.”

Why This Job Rocks

“At Jet Cooper, collaborating with my team is very satisfying. Team work is integral to pushing yourself and results to the next level.”
