Question

It was neat to learn that most foreign DNA from sharing a glass is destroyed in the course of a hour. Why can humans not defend against the genetic material of the cold sore virus?

Answer

Well sometimes viruses have interesting ways for avoiding our natural defense system. HIV and HERPES (the cold sore virus) have such protective mechanisms so the host (Human) does not recognize them as foreign.
