What is a satellite?
A satellite is any that orbits a planet or a star. Satellites can be moons, planets or even machines! Some satellites that you may be familiar with include the moon and our own planet earth. The moon orbits the earth (a planet) making it a satellite. The earth orbits the sun (a star) making it a satellite itself. Satellites have many uses. For instance, we use mechanical satellites to take pictures of stars, moons and planets, even our own! Using satellites to take pictures of earth can tell us about weather patterns. Satellites orbiting around earth can also be used to send signals for television, radio and cellular phones.
