Why do tourism students study ecology?
Hello, There is a branch of tourism called 'ecotourism' and that may be why ecology would be an important subject to study in tourism. The website http://www.ecotourism.org/what-is-ecotourism, has a good amount of information on the value of ecotourism and the quote from their homepage below defining ecotourism. Ecotourism benefits many different people/communities by (among other things) enriching personal experiences with nature for the tourist, giving jobs to local residents for the communities, and may also increase the appreciation for our environment. "Ecotourism is defined as "responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people." (TIES, 1990)" Check out the ecotourism website and if you still have questions, please post again.
