About StemCellTalks

StemCellTalks is a free high school outreach initiative established to facilitate knowledge transfer between academia and high school students pertaining to the science and practical ethics of stem cells. First established in Toronto in 2010, StemCellTalks is currently hosted in 8 cities (Calgary, Edmonton, Hamilton, London, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver) across Canada. To date, over 1500 high school students have attended these symposia across the country, with a further 5000 having been reached during in-class visits leading up to the symposia.

Ever wondered what all the hype about Stem Cells is? What are these 'magical' cells that are so widely talked about, and what is the science behind them?

Well, if you have ever been curious about this, here is an amazing opportunity to learn about Stem Cells from top class researchers in the field. This spring, senior-level biology students have the opportunity to participate in a novel stem cell biology and biotechnology symposium called StemCellTalks. Through interactive presentations and discussions, StemCellTalks introduces senior biology students to the science and practical ethics of stem cells.

Last year, Hamilton StemCellTalks hosted students from 4 different high schools around the golden horseshoe area. Attending students interacted with top tier Canadian scientists in both group, as well as one on one discussion. If discussing cutting edge science is up your alley, then stay tuned for details on how you can apply for StemCellTalks Hamilton!
